How often do you ask yourself who you are?
How often do you ask yourself who you are?
Do you believe the tales you tell?
Let’s do a thought experiment.
Make a list of five things that define you,
Big things.
Now, throw them away.
Get rid of them!
Would you dare?
Would you still be you, without the things you used to define yourself?
Now, make a list of five more.
Get rid of those too.
Are you still you?
Still with me?
Let’s push this further.
Suppose you now had no arms nor legs?
Are you still you?
Now, you lose your ability to see and hear.
I know, this is getting ridiculous!
And then your ability to smell and taste vanish,
And your ability to feel touch.
Are you still you?
Are you there?
Now, there is no way to know if anyone or anything is there,
Is there?
It’s likely getting harder and harder to define yourself.
But something is still there, isn’t it?
Are you disoriented?
Existing in some nondescript point in time and space.
With nothing to orient you.
With nothing to define you.
But,
Something is there,
The you, that is you, still remains.
Doesn’t it?
What is that?
This is your true self.
Nothing else.
Nothing more.
Indivisible,
Inextinguishable,
Undefinable.
Say hello.
